A little light. A better garden.
Garden Eye is an app in development for understanding sunlight at a specific spot in your garden. It combines a scan of the surrounding sky with the sun’s path to estimate how light changes through a day and across the seasons.
The intended workflow is simple: choose your location, scan the sky from the spot you care about, and explore the sunlight estimate. Buildings and trees matter as much as the compass direction on a plant label.
Make the uncertainty visible
- Use your camera to capture the surrounding sky and obstructions.
- Process the scan on your device with an image-segmentation model.
- Explore seasonal sunlight rather than a single moment in the day.
- Keep unscanned areas visibly uncertain and allow tree-related corrections.
Estimates depend on the completeness and quality of the scan. Leaves, branches, weather, and changing surroundings can affect the light a plant actually receives.
Still on the workbench
Garden Eye is being developed and is not yet available through an app store. This page will carry release and support information as it becomes available.
Local processing
In the current development version, camera images are processed on the device and saved scans stay in local browser storage. A model download is needed for image analysis. The app’s privacy page describes that behavior in more detail.
